The progress of SUWECO project
The SUWECO through Malikia group in Itwindu village are implementing project on beekeeping for forest conservation and livelihood support but to ensure that every group memebers has to have the knowledge and skills of keeping and management the bees SUWECO in the first place had to organize a beekeeping training the trainers where from Kondoa District beekeeping department. After the training the group went into the second stage of establishing an apiary which is stocked with 15 beehives (see photos below) purchased from Tanzania Forest Service Agency Kondoa District. By the time I visited them they were in the process of baiting the hives to invite bees to pop in given the fact that an apiary is at the edge of miombo woodlands and near water sources bees for sure hives will be populated with bees before the end of November, 2015 this is statement from group members. In terms of finance almost all the given money have been used for training and buying beehives and they are waiting second installation to proceed with implementation of remained activities as per their plan submitted one of it being purchasing beekeeping gears. Based on my ground observation of want is going i recommend that this group has to be given their second installment upon submitting their progress report (activity and financial).
